Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said there had been forces at work throughout history to throw patriotic leaders out of power, and similar elements were active again.  

 Making his remarks to the media at the presidential secretariat, he said the government is prepared to resist the machinations of such elements. The Minister said everyone is entitled to the right to protest but not to create an anarchic situation.  The Minister said people were confronted with shortages of gas, electricity and fuel, but solutions to them could not be found through riotous acts.
