With the general public ignoring all health guidelines despite constant warnings, authorities could be compelled to impose tougher restrictions in the future, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena said.
He told the media over the weekend that people were behaving as if Sri Lanka had broken free from the coronavirus.
“It is imperative that people keep in mind that we are not out of the woods yet and there is always a possibility of cases surging at any point,” the Health DG emphasised.
“That is where strict adherence to health practices plays a crucial role in combating the virus,” he added.
Dr. Gunawardena also said that functions and weddings held in recent days had contributed to the slight increase in cases.
The number of cases surpassed the 600 mark on Friday (05) and Saturday after 16 days
