The five people aboard the missing submersible died in what appears to have been a "catastrophic implosion," a U.S. Coast Guard official said on Thursday, bringing a grim end to the massive international search for the vessel that was lost during a voyage to the Titan.

On Sunday, the US Coast Guard received a call from the submersible’s command ship, saying it lost contact with the vessel about 900 miles (1,450 kilometers) east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Since then, the US Navy has launched massive search operation for the submersible.

According to the news report, the missing Titan was carrying five people - a British adventurer, a French diver, a Pakistani father and son, and the founder of OceanGate Expeditions, the company that operated the tour to the Titanic wreckage.
