Traders impose lockdown in Veyangoda, Gampaha and Ambalantota

All business establishments affiliated to the Traders Associations in Veyangoda, Gampaha and Ambalantota towns put up shutters for a week.   

The Veyangoda Traders Association said it decided to prevent the public visiting the town in view of the increasing rate of CORONA victims in the area.   President of the association S.I.S.Weerasinhe said 18 individuals had died of COVID -19 recently and the situation could further aggravate due to the public frequenting the town.   
The business establishments in Ambalantota were closed yesterday for a week in view of the threat of COVID-19 pandemic spreading fast in the area. Secretary of the traders association A.H.Premachandra said this step was taken to prevent the infected and their associates from visiting the town. However several traders who refused  to join the traders association’s decision had opened their shops.   A similar decision had been taken by the, Municipal United Traders Association in Gampaha. The Secretary of the association Sumith Alwis said business establishments in the town would be closed for a week from today (16) in view of the rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing rate of deaths.   President of the traders association Susan Kumarapperuma said the majority of the traders in the town agreed to this decision and informed the Govt. Agent, the Divisional Secretary, the Mayor, the SSP and the HQI.
