The Police will soon introduce a system to identify traffic offenders through traffic surveillance systems and to send fine papers to the offenders' homes, the Public Security Ministry said.
They said the police together with the Department of Motor Traffic and the Attorney General's Department are working to put the system in place. Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekera recently inspected the CCTV Division which covers 33 streets in the city of Colombo.
This division was established in 2010 to monitor traffic movements. The Ministry said under the existing technology, action taken against traffic offenders is slow and a system to send traffic fine tickets to the offenders' homes will be initiated soon.
