In the wake of several unfortunate incidents being reported at fuel stations due to shortage of fuel, military personnel have been deployed to monitor the distribution of fuel at filling stations operated by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, commonly known as CEYPETCO across the country, the Army said.
Military Spokesman Nilantha Premaratna said two military men will be deployed at each CEYPETCO fuel station. He said the Army will only monitor the distribution of fuel, not to assist distribution.
Meanwhile, several persons were either injured or arrested following clashes and unpleasant incidents reported at fuel stations across the country within last few days.
Last Sunday, a motorcyclist was also stabbed to death by a three wheeler driver following an argument at a fuel station in Nittambuwa.
