Truck kills mother, 6 YO at bus stop in Vavuniya

In a devastating incident that occurred yesterday morning, a woman and her six-year-old daughter were fatally struck by a lorry near Kannatti in Puwarasam Kulam along the Vavuniya-Mannar Road, the Police said.  

The victims, identified as Sivaloganathan Subogini (36) and her daughter Sivaloganathan Dinusika (06), were waiting for a bus to go to school when the accident took place.  

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the lorry, allegedly travelling at an excessive speed, veered off the road, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the mother and daughter. Tragically, both victims lost their lives on the spot.   

Swift action by local residents resulted in the apprehension of the lorry driver and his two helpers, who attempted to flee the scene. They were subsequently handed over to the authorities and are scheduled to appear before the Vavuniya Magistrate for further legal proceedings.
