Two prison inmates including ex LTTE cadre passed GCE O/L

  • An examination centre is set up every year in the prison to direct talented inmates to higher education activities.

Two prison inmates including a former LTTE cadre who were detained at the Magazine Prison, have passed the 2020 G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination, the Prisons Department said.

Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said that four inmates of Watareka and Magazine Prisons sat for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination held at the Magazine Prison and Watareka Outdoor Prison and two of them passed with flying colours.


He said, in collaboration with the Department of Examinations, an examination centre is set up every year in the prison to direct talented inmates to higher education activities.


Prison inmates on previous occasions have completed their postgraduate studies as well, the spokesman said.
