An Assistant Agriculture Director and an Agriculture Instructor had been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for issuing fake quarantine certificates to release a stock of dried arecanut from the customs last year.

Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said that the Sri Lanka Customs has made the complaint with the CID.
Then the CID recorded several statements in this regard and the two officials were arrested accordingly.

SDIG Rohana said that the officials had issued quarantine certificates without inspecting the containers physically.
Further investigations are continuing to identify if there were any other officials involved in the incident.
