UNP working committee which met yesterday at Sirikotha unanimously decided to appoint party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as its national list MP. UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardene told Daily Mirror that the proposal was made by him and seconded by Ananda Kularatne.

Wickremesinghe's nomination was unanimously approved by the working committee.

“I proposed that Mr. Wickremesinghe  should be appointed to Parliament through the national  list slot the party had received as it is a choice of the entire nation. Everyone in the committee approved my proposal,” he said. “Mr. Wickremesinghe  did not turn the request down.

Therefore we will send his name to the Election Commission soon,” he said.
Also he said the party approved the list of names that were to be  appointed to local bodies instead of those who were removed for joining the Samagi Jana Balawegaya(SJB).
It was also decided  that these names should also be sent to the elections commission.
Meanwhile five new members were appointed to the UNP Working
Committee today.

They are Dinouk Colombage, Kithsiri Manchanayake, Saman Ratnapriya, Shafeek Rajabdeen and Ramaiah Yogarajan.
