United National Party (UNP) yesterday called for effective steps to resolve Sri Lanka’s financial crisis including the removal of Ajith Nivard Cabral from the post of Central Bank Governor.
UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene in a statement said the Central Bank Governor should be removed as he is also responsible for the financial crisis.
“The government seems to be thinking that people are ignorant. It is possible that the government is of the opinion that people’s attention will be diverted by removing two ministers from the cabinet. Removing Ministers will not resolve the issues faced by the people.
The Central Bank Governor who has adopted wrong financial policies should also be removed,” Mr. Wijewardene said.
“We offered assistance to the government but our offer was neglected. We requested the government to seek IMF assistance but this too was rejected. Government must come out with a solution to the financial crisis,” he added.
