The senior members in the UNP have proposed that party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe should not support the SJB sponsored no- confidence motion against Minister Udaya Gammanpila, sources close to Mr. Wickremesinghe said.   

 They said that it could be done so if it was a no confidence motion brought against the entire government, 
Sources said the party seniors were of the opinion that if the no- confidence motion brought against Minister Gammqnpila was presented in its present form, it will only help the government to resolve divisions within. “ Therefore, the UNP seniors were of the opinion that Mr. Wickremesinghe should  support the motion only of it  was converted into a no- confidence motion against the government,” sources said.   

However the party seniors were to meet Mr. Wickremesinghe this week to make a final decision on the matter.
