US 1 billion credit line Trade Ministry seeks to register importers

A day after the agreement for the US $ 1 billion credit line was signed, the Trade Ministry gave instructions for the release of all the containers of essential commodities imported from India and stuck at the port, a Minister said .   

Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa who was in New Delhi witnessed the signing of the agreement to release US $ 1 billion under a credit line for Sri Lanka to import essential items including pharmaceuticals from India.  
The Trade Ministry yesterday published a newspaper advertisement calling for applications from importers to be registered for the use of this facility.  


Sri Lanka imports food items such as sugar, spices and rice from India.
