United Petroleum, Australia to commence fuel trading in Sri Lanka



  • Sinopec, RM Park-Shell are other companies to join

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said he held an online discussion with United Petroleum, Australia yesterday morning to discuss fuel sales agreements, the government’s policy, logistics and timeline for the commencement of operations in Sri Lanka.

He tweeted that United Petroleum will communicate the dates of commencement during the next week.


Besides, he tweeted earlier that discussions were held with China’s Sinopec and RM Park-Shell on the commencement of fuel sale operation in Sri Lanka.


These three companies will enter the domestic fuel market soon as direct competitors to Lanka Indian Oil Company, which is the only foreign company in such business in the country today. They will be assigned filling stations.
