Unnecessary delay in adding solar power to national grid: Johnston

  • Ministerial sub-committee instructs relevant officials to study and report on the reasons for delay

Chief Government Whip Highways Minister and Chairman of the Ministerial Sub-committee to expedite renewable energy projects, Johnston Fernando yesterday said that there was an unnecessary delay in adding to the national grid the power generated by solar panels fixed in houses and institutions.

Minister Fernando said the focus of the ministerial sub-committee is drawn to providing facilities and clearing the obstacles to add power generated by such solar panels to the national grid.

“The ministerial sub-committee has issued instructions to relevant officials to study and report back on the reasons for delaying adding electricity generated by the solar panels to the national grid,” he added.

He said it had taken more than six months to fix the solar panels on the house of former Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila.
