The vaccination drive for all those aged between 15 and 19 will commence within the next two weeks, State Minister Channa Jayasumana said yesterday.

The Minister told the media said the adolescents would be vaccinated with Pfizer’s COVID-19 jabs to be stored under specific cold chain requirements.

“We also need to ready the hospital staff for this purpose unlike for other vaccines. Therefore, it could take some time,” he said.

“Discussions are also underway with Regional and Provincial Health Directors to arrange suitable locations to administer vaccine doses,” he added.

However, the State Minister said they hope to begin the vaccination drive for adolescents with the next two weeks.
Moreover, the Minister of State invited the parents to encourage their children without hesitation to receive the jab.
The decision to vaccinate the relevant age group was taken following recommendations by the experts’ committee appointed in this regard.
