• Some groups going against policy decisions and vaccinating selected personnel
• Programme is now causing inconvenience to the public

The ongoing COVID-19 vaccination programme launched by the government will collapse soon, if no proper mechanism is implemented, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said yesterday.

GMOA General Committee Member Dr. Prasad Colombage told the media that the COVISHIELD vaccination programme was introduced recently to continue it without any issue.

"Following a policy decision, the vaccination programme started. However, certain groups had gone against the policy decisions and started vaccinating selected personnel," he claimed.

"Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID-19 Disease Control Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle also said the vaccination programme had gone against the procedures and even the Ministry's administration," Dr. Colombage said. The vaccination programme is now causing inconvenience to the public and the government is currently losing people's trust, he said.

Moreover, he said certain individuals are suspected of over-vaccinating them under a certain procedure.
Therefore, the GMOA requests the Health Ministry to implement the vaccination programme correctly and not let external forces to intervene.
