Vaccination roll out extended to 12 more districts from today



  • One million doses of Sinopharm vaccines were brought to Sri Lanka on Sunday

The vaccination roll out will commence in 12 more districts with Sinopharm jabs from today, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said. 
 
Accordingly, vaccination will kick off in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Kegalle, Trincomalee, Hambantota, Badulla, Anuradhapura, Puttalam, Ampara, Batticaloa, Moneragala and Polonnaruwa Districts from tomorrow.  
“One million doses of Sinopharm vaccines were brought to Sri Lanka on Sunday to continue with the vaccination programmes in these districts. Another one million doses of Sinopharm vaccines will be brought to Sri Lanka on June 9,” the Army chief said.  


He said the President has also instructed to give priority to vaccinating senior citizens over 60 years of age, government employees who are at the forefront of the Covid eradication programme, apparel factory workers and expectant mothers who do not show any complications.  


Gen. Silva said the current COVID situation in the country will be discussed with health experts and then it would be decided whether to extend the travel restrictions further as per their recommendations.
