Vehicle imports to be allowed under certain restrictions

• Importers urged not to mislead and embarrass people

The government yesterday urged vehicle importers not to mislead and embarrass people by giving various unnecessary publicity on vehicle imports as vehicle imports will be allowed under certain restrictions.    

Cabinet spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa told the weekly Cabinet briefing that the Finance Ministry will announce the categories of vehicles that will be permitted to be imported shortly.   
Responding to a question, he said the decision on vehicle imports was taken after considering the economic situation of the country, economic targets of the government and the foreign reserves of the country under close supervision of the Finance Ministry.   
He said the vehicle imports will be allowed under certain restrictions and urged the vehicle importers to act with understanding of the restrictions.
