• The economic crisis is now heading towards human disaster 

The 10-party alliance which is also called the Union of Independent Parties said violence and anarchy would result in the fate that befell Libya befalling Sri Lanka, and it was the duty of all concerned to prevent such a scenario.  Issuing a statement, the alliance said the economic crisis is now heading towards human disaster with protesters attempting to take control of the parliamentary complex.  

It said the seizure of the parliamentary building would cripple its functions making it impossible to take vital decisions including the election of a new president on July 20.
