We provide free charcoal in snow instead of collecting rented umbrellas: China Merchants Chairman

  • Sri Lankan, Chinese, Maldivian, Singapore companies sign for 15 projects at Hambantota Port

In what appeared to be a sign of confidence building in Sri Lanka for foreign investments, a grand signing ceremony and ribbon cutting ceremony of 15 projects was held at the Hambantota International Port yesterday, covering shipping, logistics, warehouse, duty-free, fuel oil sales, construction, yachts manufacturing by the companies in Sri Lanka, China, the Maldives and Singapore, according to a tweet by the Chinese embassy in Colombo.

The Hambantota port is a key Chinese investment in Sri Lanka. It is held by the China Merchants Group jointly with Sri Lanka Port Authority (SLPA).

According to another Twitter message by the embassy, China Merchants Group Chairman Miao Jianmin said,” We are always “providing free charcoal in the snow” instead of “collecting rented umbrellas in the rain”. We will further strengthen cooperation with local and foreign companies and make more contributions to Sri Lankan economic recovery.
