Nidahas Janatha Sabhawa (NJS) leader MP Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday expressed the intention to establish a Joint Opposition with a minimum programme to counter the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration.

Emphasizing the need for a broad alliance to achieve this objective, Alahapperuma stated that the Nidahas Janatha Sabhawa was prepared to engage in dialogues with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), National People Power (JJB), and other opposition groups.

“Our intention is to prioritize building a bridge among all Opposition parties to collectively work towards the common goal of defeating the incumbent government,” Alahapperuma told the Daily Mirror.   He further stressed the importance of commitment to a common programme, rather than focusing on party and personal ambitions.
In response to these developments, SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara confirmed ongoing discussions with the group led by Alahapperuma.  “We are currently engaging in talks with the Alahapperuma group for a joint programme,” he stated.   However, Bandara expressed uncertainty regarding the possibility of engaging in dialogue with the JJB.   “We are uncertain about the feasibility of having discussions with the JJB,” he added.
