We will not do any injustice to Sri Lanka: India tells SL

  • Does not say whether it will vote in favour of SL
  • During the informal consultations India remained non-committal

India is reported to have conveyed that it will not do any injustice to Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), a top source said yesterday.

However, India has not spelt out whether it will vote against the resolution to be moved by the United Kingdom-led core-group of countries at the UNHRC.

“India said: We will not do any injustice to Sri Lanka,” the source said.

During the informal consultations that took place on the resolution, India remained non-committal. During the High-Level Segment, India urged Sri Lanka to implement the 13th Amendment in full.

India - Sri Lanka bilateral relations soured in recent times after the Sri Lankan government reneged from MoU signed under the previous government to jointly develop the East Container Terminal of the Colombo Port.
Pakistan, Russia, China and Cuba were among the countries that campaigned for Sri Lanka against the resolution during the informal consultations.
