Woman commits suicide by jumping from CID building

A 46-year old woman who was arrested over an alleged financial fraud of Rs. 60 million, committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) building yesterday, the police said.   

They said the woman, who was arrested on Monday, had jumped out of the window of the fifth floor. 

 
The deceased has been identified as Rajapaksa Mudiyanselage Apsara Menike, 46, a resident of Niyandagala, Pannipitiya.  


Following a lengthy investigation into a complaint lodged by the State Mortgage and Investment Bank with the CID, the suspect was arrested in Kalubowila on Monday for preparing fraudulent documents and impersonating as another person to cover up the fraud.  


The woman was detained at the CID to be produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday.   
Police said the woman had gone to the toilet at around 3 a.m. yesterday morning and jumped out of the window.  


The body of the woman is kept at the Colombo National Hospital morgue.  


The Fort Police are conducting further investigations under the supervision of a Senior Superintendent of Police to find out whether the security guards had neglected their duties while she was being detained.
