Woman injured after elephant runs amok in Kandy Perahera

A woman was injured last night when two elephants belonging to the Vishnu Devalaya ran amok during the second day of Kumbal Perahera at the historic Temple of the Tooth in Kandy.  

Following these two elephants, another two elephants that belonged to Sri Dalada Maligawa also turned violent.  


The two elephants, which belonged to the Dalada Maligawa, were brought under control and paraded the streets. The other two were tied near the Queens Hotel.  
During the incident, a woman was admitted to the Kandy hospital with injuries, and another three people had fallen into the Kandy Lake (Nuwara Wewa) after they panicked.  
Later, the three people were rescued by the officers of the police lifeguard unit.
