A young man had been hacked to death during a clash between two groups near Kaudaramni lagoon in Pooneryn on Sunday evening (26).  

A group of young men from Elephant Pass had clashed with another from Gurunagar that arrived by sea.   The deceased was identified as Ranjan Niroshan (22) from Anakottai in Kilinochchi. Police said an altercation between the two groups during a sea bath had resulted in the killing.  

The group of young men from Gurunagar had fled from the scene after the incident.  

Kilinochchi Additional Magistrate S.Siva Balasubramaniam who visited the scene and held the preliminary magisterial inquiry ordered police to refer the body to the Kilinochchi hospital for postmortem examination.  
A police team under OIC Kilinochchi police M.M.D.N. Chaturanga is conducting further investigations to arrest the absconding suspects.
