A young woman waiting for her sister in her sister’s motorcar parked in front of a bank in Karapitiya had been abducted and robbed of her cash and jewellery by an unidentified individual who boarded the motor car under the pretext of reversing it to find parking space for his van and had sped away with her on board, the police said.

She was a medical student of a Rusian University who had returned to the country on holiday. Her sister who drove the car had parked it with its engine running and walked into the bank. Meanwhile an individual who occupied the driver’s seat had sped away with the young woman on board.

When she opened the door and attempted to jump out he had held her by her hair and proceeded. However, the suspect had halted the car and robbed her of her jewellery and cash Rs.102,000 and left her by the road side. He had started the car with the remote control key, which he threw at the young woman asking her to come and take away the car and sped away.

After investigations of her complaint the police recovered the motorcar left by the roadside at Boossa, a few miles off Galle. Police said they would examine the CCTV recordings to identify the suspect.
OIC Crime Investigation Branch IP D.G. Ananda, IP Mahesh, SI Mendis and Sergeant 58971 Bandara are conducting further investigations on the instructions of SSP Dulshan Nagahawatta.
