At a time when there are demands to send all 225 parliamentarians home we must reflect on Aristotle’s comment in ‘The Politics’ where he argues that ‘if it is inevitable that not all the citizens in a sound state are good, it is impossible for all to have the virtues of the good man, to be fit enough to rule others’.
