Two persons were reportedly killed during a shooting at Thiranagama Junction in Hikkaduwa, police said.

Two men arrived on a motorcycle and carried out the shooting using a T-56 assault rifle.

The victims, aged 26 and 47 were identified as residents of Hikkaduwa.

Earlier,  police said 32 shooting incidents were reported to the Police within  the first nine months of this year and a total of 36 persons were killed  in those shootings. 

A  new police division was also set up in the Southern Province few days  ago to combat organized crimes, drug trafficking and other crimes that take place in the Matara and Hambantota districts.
