Recently, a group of people in a van tried to abduct two school children by giving them some kind of food, however the children managed to escape. Following the incident, the parents of the children complained to the Mannar Police and the school authorities requested police to take action, they said.

Later, the Mannar District office, the school principals, the Mannar Police, the army and representatives of civil organizations held a discussion and launched a programme to provide special protection to the school children.

Accordingly, the police and the army have been deployed in front of the schools as well as on the roads in Mannara, while the principals and teachers have informed the children not to walk alone on the roads and instead to walk in groups.
