With the objective of opening up its students to job opportunities available in the corporate world, Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), the national body for marketing in Sri Lanka, organised a mega Career Day at SLIM Business School in Colombo recently.

The participation of around 20 companies from different industries, including leading conglomerates such as John Keells Holdings and multinational giants such as HSBC, Ultratech Cement, Ikman.lk, DFCC Bank, Sunshine Holdings, etc., resulted in the event being a resounding success.

Speaking after the event, SLIM President Ruwan Liyanagamage commented: “We organised this Career Day to benefit our students and employers who are planning to recruit vibrant marketing talent into their organisations. Needless to say, this will also strengthen the corporate sector by hiring the best sales and marketing talent in the country.”

SLIM is known as the best breeding ground for marketing and sales professionals in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, the institute maintains close ties with the industry, which enables it to be more contemporary with the latest developments and requirements of the corporate world. All in all, its intention is to create a win-win situation for its students and the marketing fraternity.

SLIM Chief Executive Officer Sanath Senanayake also commented: “There is a great demand in the industry for professionals who possess the right mix of theoretical and practical knowledge. SLIM graduates are attractive with the right balance and exposure to employers, as they are known to exhibit the ideal combination of these two due to the quality of education provided by our institute. The idea behind the Career Day is to expose these ideal candidates to employers, proving that SLIM not only provides the best marketing and sales education but also focuses on the future career prospects of its students.”

This was the first-ever SLIM Career Day and was well received by the organisations which participated. Plans are in place to carry this forward as a biannual event and cater to specific human resource needs of organisations, by bridging the gap between the employers and potential employees (SLIM students).

SLIM has been promoting marketing excellence and elevating the status of marketing since 1970. It is a member of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL), Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA) and Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL). Internationally it is affiliated with ESOMAR, European Society of Market Research and is a member of the Asia Marketing Federation (AMF), which is affiliated to the World Marketing Association (WMA).
