SriLankan Cargo, the freight arm of SriLankan Airlines, celebrated the success of Sri Lanka’s cargo fraternity with an Agents Awards Night which also felicitated them for their outstanding support for the National Carrier for the period 2015/16.
The event was attended by Sri Lanka’s air cargo industry, with more than 150 prominent members of the industry participating including interline partners.
The winner of the Gold Award – Expo Lanka Freight (Pvt) Ltd – received their award from Siva Ramachandran, Chief Commercial Officer of the SriLankan Airlines. CR Exports (Pvt) Ltd was awarded the Silver, presented by Chamara Ranasinghe, Head of Cargo at SriLankan Airlines. DHL Keells won the Bronze award, which they received from Clifford Rodrigo, Cargo Sales Manager Sri Lanka, SriLankan Airlines.
Ten more cargo agents received Awards of Appreciation, namely Speedmark Transportation Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Nidro Supply (Pvt) Ltd, Power Freight (Pvt) Ltd, DHL Global Forwarding Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Freight Links International (Pte) Ltd, Abans Logistics (Pvt) Ltd, Aitken Spence Cargo (Pvt) Ltd, Weerasiri Trading Co (Pvt) Ltd, DSV + UTI Pership (Pvt) Ltd, and Alpha Express Colombo (Pvt) Ltd. These were presented by Ajith Fernando, Senior Manager Cargo Revenue Optimisation, Niran Seneviratne Manager Worldwide Cargo Sales & Marketing and Clifford Rodrigo, Cargo Sales Manager Sri Lanka.
SriLankan Cargo plays a crucial role in supporting all areas of Sri Lanka’s economy, including both the export and import sectors, and has a large market share of 24 percent of air cargo into and out of Sri Lanka. The airline handles all types of general cargo, courier shipments, perishable goods, live animals, dangerous goods, valuables, vehicles, and goods that require special care.
Sri Lanka, the hub station achieved a carriage of 24,100 metric tonnes during 2015/16, and 12,536 metric tonnes of imports. SriLankan Cargo also carries the largest share of transhipment freight through Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport and handled 39,842 metric tonnes of transhipment
cargo in 2016.
In addition to carrying freight across SriLankan Airlines’ network of 100 destinations in 47 countries throughout Asia, the Middle East and Europe on its sophisticated all-Airbus fleet of A320, A320neo, A321, A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft, SriLankan Cargo also operates an efficient dedicated freighter service to various cities in South Asia.
SriLankan Cargo is also an important revenue generator for the national carrier, and contributed a significant 11 percent of the national carrier’s revenue during the year 2015/16.
