Following the conclusion of the Advanced level examinations, students and parents are often faced with several challenges in selecting the right pathway to an undergraduate qualification. There are many different hopes and ambitions involved. While some students have an idea of what they want to pursue in life, others will be in need of expert guidance. Even those students who have chosen their career pathways often need counselling and advice from educators on the different study options available, to support them in realising their ambitions.
Many students also look at the option of studying for an international qualification in Sri Lanka, with the same level of recognition when qualified overseas and at an affordable price that gives them a good return on the time and money invested. And while most parents prefer for their children to study in Sri Lanka, there are those students who would like to pursue a combination of both local and overseas study options.
Pearson, the world’s largest education company, with a long history of offering Edexcel and BTEC qualifications in Sri Lanka, will be hosting forums on higher education for students and parents. The events will focus on providing specific guidance on the range of disciplines and study options available to students. This will be an ideal opportunity for students and their parents to understand the key factors to consider when selecting pathways that eventually determine future careers.
The seminars that are free of charge to the participants will be held on October 12, 13 and 15, 2015 (in Colombo, Kandy and Galle, respectively) and will run from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Those attending will get the chance to visit student guidance counselling desks, manned by institutes offering BTEC HND qualifications and degree top-up programmes from the UK and other overseas universities, to get ‘one-to-one’ counselling. Students will also hear about the flexible study options for both full-time and part-time study available to them, as well as attractive financial packages offered by BTEC HND centres.
Pearson offers a wide range of disciplines in BTEC HND, from Business, Computing and several specialisations in Engineering, to Quantity Surveying, Teaching, Psychology, Biomedical Science, Hospitality and many others. Over the past 15 years, many thousands of students have progressed through the BTEC HND route to a degree by going directly into the third year of the degree courses, both in Sri Lanka and overseas. More details can be obtained from the Pearson Country Office in Colombo or approved BTEC centres.
