E-tel launches first Android smartphone with Sinhala OS

E-tel, one of the top three smartphone brands in Sri Lanka on market share, has broken new ground with the launch of the first smartphone in the country with an operating system in Sinhala on the Android platform.

The E-tel ‘Curiosity N2’ offers display icons, system commands and messaging in Sinhala via the Android 4.4 ‘Kit Kat’ operating system, importer Brantel said. 

Positioned as an ‘entry level’ smartphone by E-tel standards, the Curiosity N2 is no slouch however: its 1.2 gigahertz Quad Core processor, 4GB memory supported by up to 32GB of external memory and 512 MB RAM deliver consistent performance. 

The dual-SIM phone has a 4.5-inch screen, a 2MP rear camera with flash and a VGA front camera for video calls and selfies.

“E-tel’s success in the market is its ability to provide smartphone technology customised for identified user segments in the local market at extremely competitive prices,” Priyantha Wickramanayake, National Sales Manager of Brantel said. 

“As one of the three highest selling brands in the smartphone and the feature phone segments in Sri Lanka, we have an intimate knowledge of market requirements, and the Curiosity N2 satisfies an existing need.”

E-tel phones are designed in Hong Kong and manufactured in world class manufacturing facilities in China that produce branded smartphones for the European and US markets, guaranteeing the same high level of quality, consistency and performance.

The E-tel smartphone range sold in Sri Lanka now comprises of the Curiosity i2, i4, i406, i5c, i6 and i7c series, the Curiosity N3 released in early March 2014, the Curiosity O9 released in late July 2014, the Curiosity N4 ‘Double Wonder’ released in March this year, and the Curiosity L2 – the top of the line, full HD, Octa Core processor powered, best-in-class mobile phone launched in June 2015.

E-tel phones are available in nearly 2000 dealer outlets in Sri Lanka and via a Brantel owned after sales service network of six service centres in Colombo, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Matara, Negombo and Jaffna.
