Reform the system. It takes too long for a bail bond hearing. Many are unnecessarily remanded for minimum 30 days without even having evidence against them. This must change.

As of the most recent data, the total prison population in Australia is 43,305. This figure represents the average daily number of prisoners in the March quarter of 20241. It’s important to note that these numbers can fluctuate and are subject to updates by the relevant authorities. For the most current and detailed statistics, you may refer to the Australian Bureau of Statistics or other official sources. However in most of the prisons the prisoners are utilised to work in prison Industries thus making a significant contribution to the economy. This is some thing that we too can do in Sri Lanka. This too will be a part of rehabilitation and making them future entrepreneurs. In Australia prisoners who work in these industries are paid a minimum wages as well in order to motivate them to work in these institutes.
