PTC Industries’ subsidiary Aerolloy Technologies has become India’s first private company to commission a Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) furnace for producing aerospace-grade titanium alloy ingots. The German-manufactured facility, unveiled today in Lucknow, has an annual melting capacity of 1,500 MT and can produce titanium alloy ingots up to 1,000 mm in diameter.
The shares of PTC Industries Limited were trading at ₹13,316.55 down by ₹142.05 or 1.06 per cent on the NSE today at 2.28 pm.
The development places India among select nations, including the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdom, capable of manufacturing high-grade titanium alloys for aerospace applications. The VAR facility operates under vacuum conditions to ensure superior metallurgical structure and uniform alloy composition essential for jet engines and airframes.
Jim Collins, Chief Technology Officer of PTC Industries, noted that the facility matches global standards for aerospace-grade titanium alloy production. Chairman Sachin Agarwal emphasized that this achievement eliminates India’s dependency on imports for these critical materials.
The company is expanding its aerospace capabilities through a new manufacturing facility in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. This facility will include a fully integrated titanium and superalloy mill for producing aerospace-grade ingots, billets, bars, plates, and sheets. (The Hindu)
