Xi'an, China – The Nepal Pavilion attracted attention at the 8th Silk Road International Expo held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, from September 20 to 24, 2024, as Nepalese businessmen showcased their country's rich cultural heritage and artisanal craftsmanship.
Among them was Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat, a seasoned handicraft seller, who proudly displayed traditional fabrics, tapestries, and handwoven shawls made from fine wool, cotton, and silk.
Adorned in traditional Nepalese attire, Muzaffar passionately greeted visitors at his booth, explaining the significance of each intricate design. Having been in business in China for over a decade, he has witnessed significant growth, with his products now reaching markets across the country. "China offers a supportive environment for artisans like me. The demand for unique handmade products is growing, and the Silk Road Expo allows us to build lasting trade relationships," he said.
Anil Thapa, another entrepreneur from Kathmandu, shared his experience of expanding his family textile business in China. He emphasized how Chinese consumers' respect for tradition and cultural heritage aligns with the values embodied in Nepalese textiles.
China, Nepal’s second-largest trading partner, has seen a surge in bilateral trade, with China's imports from Nepal rising significantly. Entrepreneurs from Nepal and around the world are exploring new growth opportunities at the Silk Road International Expo, making Xi'an a vibrant hub for international trade and investment.
This year's expo attracted business associations and enterprises from 41 countries, promoting resources, industries, and products, and fostering connections for joint ventures and trade expansion
