Sana’a (dpa) - Several senior commanders in the Yemeni army were injured Thursday in a drone attack by Houthi rebels in the south of the war-torn country, a military source said.

The attack could hamper UN efforts to end Yemen’s war of four years that has claimed thousands of lives and pushed the country to the brink of famine.

Thursday’s attack targeted the al-Anad air base in the southern province of Lahj during a military parade, the source told dpa on condition of anonymity.

Those injured in the attack included the chief of staff, Abdullah al-Nakhi; his deputy, Salah al-Zindani; Lahj Governor Ahmed al-Turki; and the head of the military intelligence service, Mohamed Tamah.

Five government soldiers were also killed in the strike.

The Houthis claimed the attack.

Thursday’s attack comes almost a month after the government and rebels reached a truce agreement on Yemen’s key port city of Hodeida at UN-brokered peace talks in Sweden.

Both sides haveaccused each other of breaching the ceasefire.
