Daily Mail, 25 January 2019- Carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are expected to make one of the biggest rises this year in more than six decades, Met Office scientists warn.
The build-up of the greenhouse gas could soar because changing weather in the Pacific could reduce the ability of natural ‘sinks’ such as forests or grasslands to absorb excess carbon.
Combined with rising emissions from human activity, such as burning fossil fuels, this means experts predict one of the largest rises in atmospheric carbon dioxide in 62 years of measurements. Weather patterns linked to swings in Pacific Ocean temperatures affect the absorption of carbon by plants.
