Previously we presented an introductory note on Dwi-graha Samyoga or two-planet conjunctions.
It is a prerequisite for a student of Astrology to gain a good grasp of the results of planetary conjunctions to do a successful reading of a horoscope. A very good understanding of the nature and characteristics of the nine planets and the 12 signs is a prerequisite for acquiring a thorough knowledge of the effects produced by planets in conjunction.
Let us begin the discussion on planetary conjunctions with the two planet associations or Dwi-graha Samyoga.
Sun – Moon: The House in a Natal Chart where the Sun and the Moon are positioned in conjunction assumes the greatest significance. For what that particular House represents takes precedence over what the other Houses represents and makes the biggest impact on the native. If the Samyoga occurs in the Lagna, the native is very self-centered. If it occurs in the 2nd House, he would accumulate wealth.
The Sun-Moon combination in the 3rd House results in useful journeys, in the 4th in acquiring lands and property and in the 5th a good education, winning in games and leading a comfortable living. If the native is a male, he would win the respect of women. If the conjunction occurs in an evil House, the native would be a cunning person. If the Samyoga occurs in the 8th House, the native would receive wealth from spouse or inherit wealth after the age of 30. This Samyoga occurring in a good House of a Scorpio native, would produce a Rajayoga.
The Sun- Mars: This conjunction gives the native a hot constitution making him prone to diseases like high fever and small pox. Among the positive aspects of this conjunction are that it i8mbues the native with courage, high morale, reliance, and the capacity for endurance. It also makes the native upright and firm in his stances. However, if the conjunction occurs in an evil House with malefic aspects, the native would be a cruel and sinful person.
The Sun- Mercury: This conjunction often occurs as both are often in longitudes close to each other and thus in the same Zodiacal sign.
If this conjunction occurs powerfully in a Natal Chart, the native would excel in Mathematics and Sciences. He would become a very active person leading a busy, but a productive life.
If this Samyoga is afflicted, native’s superiors and relatives would turn against him. Sun- Mercury conjunction is very beneficial for Sagittarius natives.
Sun – Jupiter: This is a very favourable combination. Native is very intelligent. He is endowed with wealth, oratorical skills, and qualities of a great statesman. He would achieve fame, high recognition, and high office possibly in the state. He would enjoy good health. This –planetary position would become still more beneficial with aspects of benefics. If Mercury joins the Sun and Jupiter, the native would become an eminent scholar. He would not enjoy the favourable results of this Samyoga is it occurs in an evil House with the aspect of evil planets.
Sun- Venus: A native with this Samyoga would become a music maestro or he would be great lover of music. He would never suffer from want. He would dress and would be fastidious about his personal appearance. His marriage would be a success. He would have fortunate children. If this conjunction is afflicted, the native would suffer from want. He would greatly suffer when this conjunction occurs in transit. Native would even go blind if Sun-Venus Samyoga is afflicted.
Sun- Saturn: This is also9 a favourable conjunction. Native would receive assistance from elders. He is mindful and economical in spending. He is highly disciplined, and all his affairs are well organized. He acts with foresight in all matters. He would become wealthy after his middle age.
Sun- Rahu: This is an ideal combination for politicians. Rahu gains much strength from his association with Sun. Native would gain much fame. If this Samyoga occurs in the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 10th or the 11 House it would produce good results. But it is not favourable when it occurs in the 4th, 5th, or the 9th House.
Sun- Ketu: Ketu loses its natural characteristics when conjoined with the Sun. Native becomes disciplined and would behave like a saint. The combination is not favourable for amassing wealth. Native would take an interest in education. He would shun publicity. Native is prone to diseases like vomiting and diarrhea.
