CEB to submit revised tariff proposal today

Colombo, December 6 (Daily Mirror) - The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has confirmed that it will submit the revised electricity tariff proposal to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) today.

This proposal, which covers the first half of 2025, is expected to come into effect in the third week of January.

The PUCSL had previously identified errors in an October proposal for a December tariff revision, leading to multiple deadline extensions, with today being the final deadline.

Accordingly, the PUCSL has stated that it will independently proceed with tariff adjustments if the CEB fails to meet the deadline.

I think, the reduction of Rs 2/- will be in place in 2025, the way that all the politicians in the past did so. Therefore, the consumers can not keep high hope in this regard.

At least 90 Units should be given as concessional rate base, if not, the expection kept by the consumers are useless and they really feel this was an EYE-WASH.

Your fixed cost are the same whether the customer consumes 1 unit of electricity or 100 units. Yet you charge the customer different rates based on consumption. You also charge different rates based on residential or business as if you incur more costs to supply electricity to business. This practice is highly unethical. Small shops should not be charged business rates as they pass down the cost to the customer. In fact, in some developed countries, industrial rates are cheaper than residential rates
