Cabinet not formed based on race, religion or caste: Minister

Colombo, November 26 (Daily Mirror) - In response to concerns raised on the lack of Muslim representatives in the recent Cabinet appointments, Cabinet spokesman and Media Minister Nalinda Jayathissa stated that the Cabinet was not formed based on race, religion or caste.

"We did not form the Cabinet based on race, religion or caste. We selected individuals who are highly capable of handling Ministerial portfolios," he said.

He added that a Muslim businessman was appointed as the Governor of the Western Province, and members of the Muslim community hold positions such as Deputy Speaker and Deputy Minister. Additionally, a Member of Parliament for the Gampaha District was appointed via the national list to represent the Muslim community.

"We are focused on serving the Sri Lankan nation as a whole, not specific races, religions or castes," Minister Jayathissa emphasised.

He appealed to the Muslim community not to view the current situation through the lens of ethnicity or religion.

"We have established a new government and Cabinet with the vision of a unified Sri Lankan nation. This approach will allow us to address issues more effectively," he said.
