Parliament, June (19)- Claiming that the transgender issue is a lucrative business, Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa said the Canadian High Commission has been talking to MPS in Parliament to promote transgender in Sri Lanka.

He told Parliament that the issues with regard to transgender people must be addressed separately without incorporating it into the Gender Equality Bill.

The MP said promoting transgender is a lucrative business and that in Western countries, primary students are given the choice to change their gender even without the knowledge of their parents.

"This a lucrative business. Around USD 4,000 is charged for a transgender surgery," he said.
