The 'Clean Sri Lanka' programme focusing on areas such as social behaviour, environmental cleanliness and people's ethical behaviour will be launched tomorrow with the participation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat, Senior Additional Secretary to the President for Finance and Economic Affairs G. N. R. D. Aponsu said yesterday.
He told a press briefing at the Presidential Secretariat that an awareness campaign will be organised in the first month after the programme's officially launch tomorrow and initiate some activities in the first month as well.
Member of the 'Clean Sri Lanka' team Chaminda Jayasuriya said the 'Clean Sri Lanka' Task Force will collaborate with other countries and some countries like Japan have offered to fund the programme in addition to funds allocated from the budget.
He said the official website will be launched on January 1 and added that the website will include a payment gateway for donors to contribute their donations to the programme, which will ensure transparency.
Jayasuriya said plans have been made to launch the pilot programmes in selected cities, including Colombo Fort and several other railway stations.
He said the programme intends not only to clean the environment but to change people's behaviour in all aspects.
He said quality and standards will be maintained in school vans, passenger buses and even traffic regulations by the police and added that international criteria will be adopted after making some adjustments to suit Sri Lanka.
Jayasuriya said the programme is free of political ideologies and requested everyone to join hands to make the programme a success as it is everyone's concern to create a beautiful country.
