Elections official dies at polling booth

An official attached to the Panama Muslim Maha Vidyalaya polling booth in Kobeigane has died inside a toilet and his body was recovered this morning.

The deceased A.M. Azim (57) was an Agricultural Research and Production Assistant from the Mawathagama area.

Nikaweratiya Magistrate Chandana Liyanage who visited the scene and held the preliminary magisterial inquiry ordered police to refer the body to the JMO of the Nikaweratiya base hospital for a postmortem examination.

OIC Kobeigane Police CI Udaya Kumara is conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASP Jayantha Gunawardene and SP Wasantha Jayamina Kumara.

A wakeup call for the NPP. This death is due to poor and inadequate public health care. The next government need to urgently improve public health service, education, rule of law and public transport.

You cannot blame public health care, people at that age are vulnerable to death if they do not take care of their health , the trigger for this person may be excessive physical efforts under beat, he may have had certain medical conditions. Yes, public health care will need to be improved a lot , I am sure NPP will improve it over the short to medium term.
