Colombo, October 31 (Daily Mirror) - Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya recently claimed that the former President deliberately misled state employees by promising them a salary hike.
Addressing a meeting yesterday, she said that she had heard the former President claim he had increased the salaries of state employees and secured the necessary funds.
She said the former President was lying, as he knows very well that the decision he had made cannot be implemented so easily. No one can simply decide to increase state employees' salaries overnight.
"There is a proper procedure to increase state employee salaries. Treasury approval should have been obtained after the decision was made. There is a correct way to do this. But an announcement was made during election time simply to deceive the public," she said.
She added that, upon hearing this, people were pleased. However, when it came to implementing the decision, the Treasury stated that they had not been advised to allocate the necessary funds.
She claimed that Ranil Wickremesinghe did this intentionally.

One month in power with less than a handful of ministers and you are calling it joke?. Where were you all the while when MR and RW played their jokes?

Yohan could be a JOKER to call Harini a joke. Harini is 100% correct. President cannot increase public servants salaries without Treasury approval. He didn't have the approval. He appointed a committee to look into it, Committee recommended the increase, that was approved by the Cabinet, without fundng or Treasury approval and senile Ranil disclosed this increase at a meeting, the the day before postal voting.

We all know Ranil plays a fox game. He is not an open and honest politician. He is very intelligent but he uses it for his selfish purposes. That was the reason he lost the presidency election

We knew Ranil made a false promise and win our confidence and be a President again, his plans did not work as he deceived the entire country protecting the rogues. Now it is your turn to catch all his Potuwa rogues and keep them behind bars.

Treasury comes under finance Ministry. President signed the capacity as President as well as on behalf of finance minister and cabinet. Cabinet approval also granted, then why are you going to get the treasury approval again.?

Seeya Thursday, 31 October 2024 10:07 AM
Cabinet approval is not enough to grant any salary increase nor take down any restrictions, a gazette should be issued. It is the govt duty to issue a gazette or circular to carry out anything that is decided by the cabinet as this is the official notification to the relevant departments. Remember the Sircular from GR time. He wanted to implement everything he thought of or said next day but couldnt do as they were not informed in a formal manner

Treasury handles money in the budget not the President. This President is not overbearing on officials and let them do their job. Perhaps people like you are not used to that. You better get used- There is no money in the budget for this.

OK now that we know we were mislead, we hope you will do what it takes to give us a salary hike from April 2025. It is a long over due need. If required reduce the number of public sector staff but increase the salary for those of us who are genuinely working for the country. Very specially the under paid teachers (the qualified and suitable teachers)

While the X president did that the current president seems to have mislead us on many things! Be it IMF, taxes or benefitting from private sector businessman the NPP too have made donkeys out of their voters. Cant blame them as they did hang grass when many of the NPP voters about an year earlier went for the SLPP convention of that year (2023).

PE promises. 1.Increase state sector salaries increases every 6 months. It was subject to RW approving or having money. 2. Increase tax threshold to RS, 200,000 per month. 3. Eliminate tax and reduce the fuel prices to that extent. 4. Eliminate perks of ex presidents ans spouses; without studying the constitution. 5. No security for ministers. Security is still in place. 6. More and more. No signs of implementing. Is this public hoodwinking. The government has to face another impending aragalaya by its own people for being misled. I fear the consequences resulting from non fulfilling the promises. Let's hope the government puts its act together and rectify. All the best

How can it be allowed the cabinet to approve salary increase without money available? Pls fix the system. Thank u.

The people have spoken at the presidential and parliamentary elections and both Ranil was shown that the people have no trust in him. He came to the parliament through the back door and the Rajapaksas handed him the presidency just to protect their interest. Hirini is the most educated leader we ever had.

I think most people here wants to see this government fail. But if they fail we will also fail. Everyone knows increasing salary now is not possible. First we should get out of being defaulted. Then reduce the gap between income And expenditure. Then salary hikes may be viable.

After receiving power the true colours of her character are exposed as the saying goes "Your slip is showing" and it should be remembered that "Pride comes before a fall" so don't be too overconfident with yourself thinking you are all knowing!!!!!!

National List MP-Turned Caretaker leader for Sri Lanka under the US PLOT, Ranil Wickremasinghe, is a known theif and his words can not be taken as serious, therefore, his promise is not an issue, but we expect AKD's promise of salary hike on state employees and it must be met immediately, blaming Ranil repeatedly will never serve the purpose of the state employees who are still in dire economic situation.

But didn't your party's campaign say that there will be salary hikes every 6 months much more than Ranil promised? Why don't you bring USD 18 billion from Uganda which you guys said you would bring back and pay off these salaries. People considered those statements when they voted for you.

Revoking of former parliamentarians perks by NPP caught floating votes and lost heavily , RW now trying to finish off parliament also by demanding non tangible perks ,
