Female Prime Minister in NPP government?

Colombo, September 16 (Daily Mirror)- NPP MP Vijitha Herath hinted that the Prime Minister could be a female in a National People's Power (NPP) government.

Speaking at a meeting in Minuwangoda, he said after the victory on September 21, a new Cabinet will be appointed with the powers vested with the President under Article 47.3 of the Constitution and parliament will be dissolved.

"The Oppotion camp questions as to how the NPP can run a government if Anura Kumara is elected President. After Anura becomes President, Lakshman Nipunaarachchi who is next in the list of preferential votes in the Colombo District will be sworn in as a new MP. Then, we can appoint a Cabinet of four members. We will appoint a new Prime Minister. The Prime Minister could be a male or a female," he said.

Herath said there is only a seven member Cabinet in Switzeland and that four-member Cabinet can run for two months until a new Cabinet is appointed after the parliamentary elctions.

He said people question whether the NPP has any prominent figures to be elected as MPs and pointed out that there are so many professionals such as doctors, engineers and lawyers to represent the NPP in Parliament.

"Did anyone of you know Harini Amarasuriya before she became an MP? She was not known to the country. But now she is known by the whole country. We have so many such people who can make huge contributions," he said.

This interim arrangement as mentioned by Vijitha H is totally opposite to recent statement of Huduuneththi. Are these two JVP politburo blokes out of sync in their approaches. One of the dumbest statements from another dumb comrade of the NPP. Yes, we were not aware of Ms. Harini Amarasuriya before she entered the parliament. But once she entered the parliament and started making speeches that made no sense and after the assertion that Buddhism will not be given the foremast place and protected under an NPP government (else can anyone show in the NPP's election manifesto to the contrary), people of Sri Lanka came to know her. People would have known her better and respected had she and AKD took on the responsibility of reviving the downtrodden economy in 2022. Where were they at the time of need? It was only Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, the only leader with a vision, assumed the responsibility of steering the economy out of the quagmire.

Who ever is chosen, ensure they won’t be a failure similarly seen with Gota and his team of advisors. All are depending NPP to bring forward the country and revamping the current status quo in every aspect of governance. If AKD and NPP doesn’t fulfill the aspirations of the voters, the consequences will be catastrophic and people will be so very disappointed similarly seen currently with SLPP!

(ii) Printing money (SL) resulting inflation (iii) Sell whatever available (iv) Take over all the Fixed deposits of Sri Lankans. (v) Money that swindled or illegally earned, to be made legal for using for government expenses. (vi) Devolution of Judicial power to carders with dispute resolution councils, like in 1988-90. (vii) Allowing loans for public without any guarantor so that the depositors will have no money in their accounts. What a way indeed!

People have learnt a very good lesson after 2019. They elected Mr. Gotabaya Rajapakse, an inexperienced politician, as the leader of Sri Lanka. People were overjoyed and youth started painting graffiti on walls to celebrate Mr. Rajapakse's ascend to presidency. He promised a system change, a country free of corruption, public sector efficiency, deploying professionals (Viyathmaga) to manage the public sector, and economic prosperity. Alas, even before the paint dried, Mr. Rajapakse had to abdicate. The majority of youth of the country is aware of the danger of entrusting economic management to an inexperienced cohort who could not manage a small radio station or govern an UC in the deep South of Sri Lanka. If this UC was well managed, why didn't the people reelect the JVP to govern that UC?

Well said! The NPP guys think that managing the economy is like playing a game of marbles. From what the NPP leaders and think-tank expound on election platforms and media briefings, it is crystal clear that they do not have an iota of knowledge of economic management. Besides, they never articulate a clear economic management plan, but merely says "we have to", "we will do", "we have plans", etc. But Ranil, during the past two years, has proven is prowess of resuscitating a shattered economy. Greece took 10 years to recover from the economic turmoil. Bangladesh is still in chaos. Pakistan's economy is in shambles. In the unfortunate event of NPP coming to power, Sri Lanka, too, will implore within six months. During the 88-89 period, my family suffered heavily from the JVPs actions, and I managed to save my life by migrating to a European country. If the NPP comes to power, I can't even think of the plight of innocent people in the hands of their para judicial and military structure!

Vision and passion matters, not experience, our parliament is a living proof. Our Elected leaders made half of Srilanka starving or malnourished. I don't understand why so many people are negative about NPP. I am very confident that NPP will be no different to UNP, SLFP, SLPP, SJB etc., There will be corruption, nepotism etc. I am very happy with it and looking forward to it. Why should only UNP, SLFP and SLPP should repeatedly keep enjoying the fruits of corruption and nepotism???? Is it a right only for a previleged class???? Let others also enjoy it for sometime. Instead of critisising, if you too want to enjoy, form a party and enter the fray. I'll support you whole heartedly and urge my family and friends too. As for SL, no hope.

One important thing to be implemented. Stop the Pension for the Politicians, Stop issuing Car Permits and Liquor permits, Cut down their Fuel, Electricity and Water bills payments, Cut down their Security. (Ranil had provided 200 Security personal to Gota). Billions could be saved by this.
