Fuel prices reduced from tonight

Colombo, June 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has reduced its fuel prices with effect from tonight.

Accordingly, a litre of Petrol 92 Octane (Rs. 355) has been reduced by Rs. 11, and its new retail price will be Rs. 344

A litre of Petrol 95 Octane (Rs. 420) has been reduced by Rs. 41, and its new retail price will be Rs. 379.

A litre of Super Diesel 4 Star Euro 4 (Rs.377) has been reduced by Rs.22, and its new retail price will be Rs.355.

However, there is no price change for a litre of Lanka Auto Diesel (Rs. 317) and a litre of Lanka Kerosene (Rs. 202).

Good! Normal diesel and kerosene not reduced. Because bus fare, transport fare , school van fare will never be reduced. But even though normal petrol is reduced, 3 wheeler fares may be increased .

This is a bad news for the leaders who are dreaming to occupy the president's chair and for confusing the mind of the people, they will compare the prices before the period of president RW govt and demand to bring down for that price. It is their habit to unwelcome any good move of the govt.

Waiting eagerly for Mr G.W to say the reduction of auto diesel is not enough to consider reducing bus fares. Or to say they already reduced it by 2 rupees so they cannot reduce anymore as they still run a loss. Give it for free and they will still say they run at a loss.

These reductions do not affect the demand for fuel as the reduction is very small compared to the increase made by the government at the beginning.

Prices of main consumer items are coming down in view of the impending elections around the corner. But nothing comes down from the traders. Specially the essential things that the consumers require on a daily basis. The government should have a stringent check on these and if necessary implement price controls .

Reducing prices distributing title deeds etc are all election gimmicks. With all that still RW is going to lose. My belief is Soon RW will bring an Amendment to the Constitution to do away with the Presidential system. Sajith AKD MR all will have to vote in favour as all of them wanted that. Then the History will be written uncle JR first Executive President and nephew Ranil the Last Executive President. Ranil will retire from politics claiming that he saved the country from bankruptcy
