There is a vacuum here and political opponents of NPP are dissipating false information to discredit NPP government. NPP must intensify their election campaign to educate people about false information propaganda. Our people can be easily fooled. NPP must make sure to complete their 5 years plan to transform political culture to have a future for the nation giving chance to educated people to enter politics.

"printing money" does not have to involve physically printing notes. The allocation of money by the central bank in the way of purchase of treasury bonds is also a form of "money printing" and constitutes the majority of printed money. This increases the money supply and leads to depreciation of the ruppee and inflation. On the other hand selling treasury bonds to the public is not "money printing" because people have to pay to get these bonds and that does not increase the money supply. So the fact that there are no new notes printed does not mean that there in no "money printing"

Either Minister Herat is ignorant or deliberately misinforming public. Printing money does not mean printing currency notes. Money printing is done electronically. As Ranga stated in his post, the Central Bank printed (injected) Rs100bn through open market operations. I am not criticizing it but don't say the government didn't print currency notes to mislead the public. Of course the government didn't currency notes but that is not what is debated. Bundula Gunewardena, said the same thing when he was the Cabinet spokesman of the previous government. Seems nothing has changed.

Now NPP is in the game of deceiving voters. Purchasing Treasury bonds by Central Bank is what's called printing money by economists. Not the actual printing of currency notes with President's signature.

The law last government passed only forbid the purchasing of T-bills by CB with its artificial money. It did not ban adding liquidity by CB to the banking system with its artificial money. Both essentially have the same effect. It increases the rupees circulating in the economy when CB artificially adds money out of thin air to the banking system to lend money out to consumers and businesses. Now CB Governor saying it did not print money makes you wonder what kind of an economist he is as this is elementary Economics knowledge and Government reiterating his statement.
