Govt. has not yet decided when to assign official vehicles to MPs

The government is yet to assign vehicles to the MPs of the new Parliament though it has taken a policy decision to do so.

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told Daily Mirror yesterday that the government is currently in the process of auctioning luxury vehicles. He said most of the MPs were using their own vehicles at the moment.

“We have taken a decision to provide vehicles to the MPs serving in the new Parliament. However, we have not decided when to assign them vehicles. We will not import vehicles to be assigned to them either,” he said.

He said the government would look into the latter later on.

The new government has decided to curtail benefits of MPs. The MPs will not be given permits for the import of vehicles without duty.
